You might wanna try a traditional Dutch treat while you’re in Amsterdam: the haring. Fish conserved in salt and best consumed with onions, although some may beg to differ- really good haring has such a ‘soft’ delicate taste that onions may be a bit strong. For those not fond of this salty fish, try the ‘kibbeling’ ( fried fish with sauce ).

Useless fact:
Lotsa people think haring is eaten raw, which isn’t the case. When the fish is cleaned they leave the pancreas & enzymes to ‘ripen’ the meat. This combined with salting gives it its specific taste
